This show has a wiki of its own: Out of Jimmy's Head Wiki.

Out of Jimmy's Head was a live-action/animated television series on Cartoon Network. It premiered on Friday, September 14, 2007. The movie, Re-Animated was made about a year ago and this show was a series about it. The series received generally negative reviews from critics, and due to low ratings and the Writer's Guild of America 2007 strike, Cartoon Network put the show on hiatus, then stopped airing episodes and making newer ones ever since May 29, 2008. Only 20 episodes were made before the show got cancelled and all references to the show were later removed from the Cartoon Network Video. A section for the show and its flash games were still kept up on CartoonNetwork.com until January 2009. When this show was on the network, there was a President's Day celebration with a new episode of Out of Jimmy's Head. That was the only special it was in (8:00AM-2:00PM). This show also aired in Cartoon Network Thursday Nights until it was cancelled.

Following this, Cartoon Network rarely acknowledged the show. The show wasn't even reran on its sister channel, Boomerang.

Plot[]

Prior to the show, 13 year-old Jimmy Roberts got hit by a train at Gollyworld, and the only way to help him was to replace his brain. The brain belonged to Milt Appleday, the creator of the cartoons in the show, making Jimmy able to see Appleday's cartoons as if they were really there. Even though Jimmy's brain was removed, and Appleday's brain was put in its place, Jimmy still somehow retained all of his memories and personality and gained none of the donor's.

Jimmy lives with his dad, the school principal, his mom, an astronaut, his sister, an alien and Sonny Appleday, the son of Milt Appleday who moved in with the Roberts so he could steal the brain from Jimmy.

Jimmy gets into many hilarious antics at school along with his best friend Craig and his love interest Robin, who is also Craig's sister. Most of these antics are caused by the characters only Jimmy sees, consisting of Golly Gopher, Dolly Gopher, Crocco, Tux, Prickles and Pickles.

Episodes[]

DVD[]

A DVD release of Out of Jimmy's Head was released exclusively in the UK. However, it only contains three episodes.

Trivia[]

  • Following the bad ratings and Writer's Guild of America 2007 strike, the series was never released on DVD in the United States, nor is it available on any streaming websites, leaving it abandoned since.
  • Because of that, the show was considered to be lost media, since episodes of the show were very rare, if not borderline impossible to find. As of 2023, however, all episodes of the show have been found and re-uploaded onto both YouTube and the Internet Achive by fans.
  • As of 2024, only its pilot movie is available to view on the Cartoon Network app.

Appearances in other media[]

  • Before the movie and the series premiered, Golly made a cameo in the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends two part special, Good Wilt Hunting, where he is seen on a poster that parodies the 1996 live action/animated hybrid Looney Tunes movie, Space Jam.
  • Characters from this spinoff made mild comebacks, in spite of Cartoon Network disregarding the show after the bad ratings and the 2007 writer’s strike:
    • Golly, Dolly, and Crocco were shown on Cartoon Network's 20th anniversary poster.
    • Golly made a cameo appearance in the OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes episode, Crossover Nexus, where he appears as one of the Cartoon Network heroes that were summoned and defeated by Strike, the episode's main antagonist.

Trivia[]

  • This was the first Cartoon Network Series to premiere during the Fall era.
