Cartoon Network is an upcoming Canadian English language Category B specialty channel that is expected to launch on July 4, 2012.[1][2]

The channel will be based on the U.S. Cartoon Network, which broadcasts animated programming aimed at children daily for 24 hours of cartoons.

The channel is expected to be wholly owned by Teletoon Canada Inc, a 50/50 partnership between Astral Media and Corus Entertainment, with the Cartoon Network and Adult Swim branding in use through a licensing agreement with Time Warner, the owners of the U.S.-based Cartoon Network. The channel is expected to be available in both standard definition and high definition from launch.[2]

With the takeover by bid of Astral pending by Bell Canada Enterprises Inc. on March 16, 2012, it is expected Corus Entertainment and Bell Media will own the newly launched network once the transaction of Astral closes (subject to CRTC approval).[3][4]

Before Cartoon Network launches, Teletoon had started broadcasting a weekly Cartoon Network programming block on the main network as of May 5, 2012. Teletoon Retro will start broadcasting a weekly Cartoon-Cartoon programming block on the main channel as of June 2, 2012.
